Listen to Our Stories highlights poetry, essays, interviews, songs, journal writing, letters, and pictures that tell the personal stories of young people with disabilities. The contributors are young girls and boys aged 5 to 21, from varied backgrounds, different talents and a range of disabilities. This website may be useful to anyone interested in personal life stories and experiences, written or told by children and young adults with disabilities
"This report presents an analysis of research on the status of transition, post-secondary education, and employment outcomes for primarily 14 to 22 year old youth and young adults with disabilities over the past 25 years. Next it identifies what has worked, and what should work in light of unmet needs and unserved populations. Finally, the report presents recommendations for national, state, and local community action"
This article provides advice to parents on how to support their daughters with disabilities to become independent and successful, and explores the difficulties that parents may encounter in finding the right balance between too much and too little protection of their daughters with disabilities. The authors discuss the differences in education for boys and girls, and the gender role expectations by society that young women with disabilities may encounter. Although the article was written for mainly a North American audience, it highlights many issues that may be of interest to anyone working with girls and young women with disabilities or with an interest in gender and disability issues
