Together towards an inclusive world (series of videos to celebrate CRPD's 10th anniversary)

ADDC and ten of its members have produced a series of short videos featuring persons with disability who are, or were, engaged in a disability-inclusive development (DID) project or initiative (in Australia or overseas). In these videos they share their personal stories and how disability inclusive development projects changed their lives, benefitted their communities and contributed to a more inclusive society.

The video series was officially launched during a parliamentary event in Canberra on 30 November 2016 in the presence of some of the persons featuring in the videos and of senior politicians from different Australian political parties.

The event was opened by an address by Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, Minister for International Development and the Pacific. In her speech, she confirmed both the Australian government’s and her personal strong commitment to ensuring that all Australian development programs are disability-inclusive and to championing DID internationally. You will find a transcript of the Minister’s speech here attached.​

"Road traffic injuries (RTIs) are a leading cause of disability and fatality globally. Motorcycle-related injuries, mainly head injuries, and related deaths and disabilities are a significant contributor to the burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Helmets have been proven to be an effective way to reduce the risk of head injury. As motorcycle use continually increases in Cambodia, head injuries and related deaths and disabilities are expected to rise. This article aims to assess the current status of helmet use in Cambodia, as well as the knowledge, attitudes, and practices among motorcyclists, in order to assist with better planning and implementation of injury prevention strategies"

Good practices in inclusive agricultural skill training for persons with disabilities : position paper

The Cambodian Disabled People’s Organisation conducted a study using the Making It Work methodology to identify good practices in inclusive agricultural skill training for persons with disabilities in line with CRPD Article 27 Work and Employment. This policy position paper presents the findings and key recommendations from the report for policy-makers within the Cambodian government and decision-makers within development agencies and NGOs. This project is a Making It Work initiative documenting and promoting good practice in line with the principles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)

The objective of this initiative was to identify good practices using the Making it Work methodology in inclusive agricultural skill training for persons with disabilities in Cambodia in line with CRPD Article 27 Work and Employment. This article examines lessons learned from the inclusion of disabled people, based on socially inclusive principles, in programme work in Angola, Armenia, Cambodia, and Senegal. Seven key lessons have been highlighted from externally led reviews and evaluations. The findings include the 'substantial effect of stakeholders’ attitudes on practical implementation, the importance of authentic consultation with a range of disabled people, appropriate budgetary considerations and a need for caution regarding livelihoods work.' "This article presents the findings of a study on access to HIV prevention and sexual violence protection services among persons with disabilities in Cambodia, based on a gender and cross-impairment analysis. The results show obvious discrepancies between women and men of different impairments in regards to their level of HIV knowledge and risks to sexual violence, in particular among women with disabilities. Furthermore, local services providers revealed their lack of awareness on disability issues and capacity in providing accessible services to them. Ways forward in addressing the rights of women and men with disabilities, as well as gaps in services delivery will have to be addressed in concerted manners at political, societal and community levels"

Voices from the ground : landmine and explosive remnants of war survivors speak out on victim assistance

This report surveys landmine survivors’ opinions on assistance. The survey includes questionnaires and data from 1,645 survivors in 25 affected countries. The report finds that survivors are rarely included in decisions and activities destined to benefit them and subsequently more than two-thirds think that their needs are not taken into account when their governments makes plans to assist them. This document is useful for people interested in landmine survivor's opinions about governments supporting and reintegrating landmine survivors into society

This publication presents the findings of research which covered over 3,500 respondents from Muslim communities across Thailand, Cambodia, Bangladesh and India (West Bengal). It is divided into 3 parts: the first part details the demographics of the study population and methodology of the research. These case studies come from an initiative that supports non-formal education projects in Africa, South Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America. The long-term goal of these projects is to develop sustainable livelihoods for low-income, low-literate populations by addressing vulnerability to HIV and AIDS and drug misuse, a lack of education and social exclusion. Central to all of these projects are the creative and innovative methods used to communicate in a meaningful way, engage people and encourage their participation. The projects all focus on capacity building, empowerment, and creating learning opportunities. A DVD has been produced to accompany this publication
