This article describes a study to investigate the prevalence of HIV in people who are hearing impaired among the population of Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, and assess their sexual vulnerability, through interviews and, in most cases, HIV testing. The research concludes that hearing impairment is a significant risk factor for contracting sexually transmitted infections and HIV, and that more research is needed into the impact of HIV and AIDS on people with disabilities, particularly those who are hearing impaired, in order to tackle this vulnerability

This document outlines aims and progress of an IPPF project, 'Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health Services and Human Rights for Youth and Adolescents in the Balkans'. The project took a holistic approach to prevention, accommodating for and responding to a plurality of youth needs, addressing issues such as discrimination, prejudice, rights and gender and integrating HIV and AIDS into the discussion of overall sexual health. Lessons learnt include the need to create a network among NGOs; to reach socially excluded young people; to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS as everyone's problem; to make a greater use of the media and to be prepared to work with other NGOs. This report will be useful reading for anyone working in HIV prevention projects, especially for NGOs operating in the Balkans

This literature review covers key issues relating to children aged 3-12 and HIV/AIDS, including discrimination, grief, children's rights, and knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS. The impact on the child, family and community is discussed in detail, particularly in terms of the psycho-social impact of bereavement and how this impacts on the child at different stages in its development. Various community programmes within southern Africa are highlighted, which support children to develop life skills.
