The micronutrient deficiency information system (MDIS) was established in 1991 following a request by the World Health Assembly that surveillance of micronutrient deficiencies be strengthened at the global level. The objectives of the MDIS are to: provide member states with national, regional and global assessments of the magnitude of micronutrient deficiencies; monitor and evaluate, through systematic data collection over time, the impact of WHO strategies to prevent and control micronutrient deficiencies, provide member states with technical support to increase capacity for the establishment and maintenance of national micronutrient deficiency surveillance systems.Currently, the MDIS includes three databases: iodine deficiency disorders, vitamin A deficiency, and anaemia
This section of WABA's website provides resources and information on key issues such as what interventions should be put in place to prevent transmission of HIV through breastfeeding, while also protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding for the majority of children who benefit from it. It also tries to address the question of how to decide which children would be at greater risk from being breastfed. An additional difficulty is the need to encourage HIV-positive mothers to choose either exclusive replacement feeding or exclusive breastfeeding, since neither is common in low-income populations
"The information and links contained within this site aim to address malnutrition in the global context, offering online access to the latest worldwide developments in its prevention and management. It is hoped that a greater understanding of best practices, including new technologies and available resources, will encourage more people to tackle the intergenerational transmission of malnutrition, while also freely sharing information and experiences." The website also has a specific section for information about nutrition and malnutrition in India. It is aimed at the community at large with a section practitioners and programme managers
This section of the WHO website contains links to WHO publications on micronutrients, information on specific micronutrients, and WHO statements, meetings and consultations. It also links to the WHO Vitamin and Mineral Nutrition Information System (VMNIS)
This site includes Micronutrient Initiative publications, news about Micronutrient Initiative programmes, and general new items relating to micronutrients. The Micronutrient Initiative works to eliminate vitamin and mineral deficiencies in the world’s most vulnerable populations
This website contains a range of information about iodine deficiency, including a full-text, online book and the IDD newsletter. The organisation aims to advocate for, and to promote, optimal iodine nutrition and the elimination of iodine deficiency disorders
This site provides information about Forum events, including meeting reports. The Micronutrient Forum focuses on the impact of micronutrient deficiencies on public health and development, concentrating specifically on populations that are deficient in vitamin A, iron, folate, iodine, and zinc. It acts as a catalyst and convener for sharing expertise, insight, and experience relevant to the control of micronutrient deficiencies in vulnerable populations around the world. The Forum replaces the the International Vitamin A Consultative Group (IVACG) and the International Nutritional Anemia Consultative Group (INACG)
This site contains a range of information relation to iodine and iodine deficiency, including reports and other publications; country information; data and statistics; and blogs. While IGN continues to play a strong scientific and advisory role on iodine nutrition, it is the network of over 100 regional and national coordinators and partner agencies (the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, the Micronutrient Initiative, and UNICEF) who are at the core of its activities and global efforts to eliminate IDD
A section of the site, called Iron World, provides links to publications on the following general topics: technical information; specific country information; advocacy and communication; international guidelines and issues; and other related micronutrients. The Iron Deficiency Project Advisory Service (IDPAS) is a project of the International Nutrition Foundation and United Nations University. It aims to support those working to improve iron nutrition in developing and transitional countries
This site links through to GAIN publications and information about the organisation’s project. There is also a variety of information about micronutrient deficiencies, including maps and data. GAIN’s mission is to reduce malnutrition through the use of food fortification and other strategies aimed at improving the health and nutrition of populations at risk. The organisation builds partnerships between the public and private sectors

"This paper examines current evidence regarding rates, risk factors, correlates and consequences of gender disparities in mental health. Gender is conceptualized as a structural determinant of mental health and mental illness that runs like a fault line, interconnecting with and deepening the disparities associated with other important socioeconomic determinants such as income, employment and social position"
The Global Health Observatory (GHO) provides access to WHO's global health-related statistics. The aim of the GHO is to: compile and verify major sources of health data; provide easy access to country data and metadata; present scientifically sound information in user-friendly formats. Specific areas are provided for theme pages, a data repository, reports, country statistics, a map gallery and standards
"This toolkit has been developed by a range of clinicians working in stroke care. The information has been provided by a national collaboration of clinicians in conjunction with their professional bodies and is based on available research evidence...This toolkit provides information on the following: Which interventions most positively benefit patient care; What range of interventions over time will reap the most benefits during illness and lead to independence; How do the interventions match to the Outcomes Framework; Which interventions are able to save money to the system; How is the functional ability of patients enabled by using Allied Health Professionals (AHPs)...The toolkit will provide an interactive method of ensuring that patient care is meeting quality standards and providing essential elements of the QIPP agenda"
This area of the global health observatory (GHO) provides access to WHO's global non-communicable disease (NCD) statistics. It presents general NCD information, mortality and morbidity statistics, risk factors, and the health system’s response and capacity to address and respond to NCDs. Links are also provided to related NCD data products. This database is useful to anyone interested in NCD related statistics and data
"The WHO Global InfoBase is a data warehouse that collects, stores and displays information on chronic diseases and their risk factors for all WHO member states...The Infobase assembles, for the first time in one place, non-communicable disease (NCD) risk factor data collected from WHO Member States. NCD risk factor data are crucial for predicting the future burden of chronic diseases in populations and also for identifying potential interventions to reduce the future burden. The Infobase online dissemination tool provides not only data but also health information to help users understand health enquiries worldwide and improve the health of nations." NCD indicators, mortalities and country profiles are provided, displaying the information with user-friendly tools including graphs, maps and data tables.
