ICTs and MDGs : on the wrong track?

This article proposes a revision of the relevance of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), as well as the incidence of ICT use in the achievement of those goals, and argues that some different priorities should be considered to make most effective use of the opportunities that new technology affords. It examines the potential for ICTs in achieving the MDGs and provides a background for a later article on the possibilities for a multi-sectoral approach

This article reports on plans for the setting up of ICT-enabled information and service kiosks in villages in New Delhi, by the Department of Information Technology. The kiosks, or 'common service centres', are to be built on a public-private partnership model and will involve a three-tier system of state government, project implementers and village entrepreneurs. The piece also reports on the pricing structure, in which government services are likely to be priced uniformly, with local services customised with varying prices
