"In serving governmental and non-governmental institutions world-wide, the Guide to European Population Assistance is intended to be a valuable resource for grant-seekers, as it provides a source of detailed and annually updated information on the variety of public funding in Europe, one of the important donor regions globally. "Each of the 34 entries gives contact information, a statement on the organisation's/institution's purpose and mission, a review of financial information and, most importantly, detailed information about how to put in a proposal and how to apply for funding. "The data of the different institutions are as recent as 2003. Although its structure follows a uniform format, the institution profiles are taken from information released by the listed institutions themselves. Input from national ICPD-NGOs has been added to the profiles. "Throughout the Guide, profiles are in a common format, which may vary slightly from one institution to another. For each listed country, a short history and summary is given about its mission statement, fields of activity and organisational structure."

This study reviews developments in the theory, policy and practice of inclusive education since the World Conference on 'Education for All' in 1990. It locates the review firmly within a human rights context. The paper concerns all groups that are excluded or deprived of their human right to primary education, but illustrates in particular the efforts made by learners with impairments overcoming barriers of access. The paper highlights some of the major barriers to inclusion and gives examples of how those barriers have been overcome

HIV stress in primary school teachers in Zambia

A study was made of stress factors experienced by primary school teachers in Zambia after they had attended a course on stress management and counselling skills. Their pupils were significantly affected by poverty, death and illness of parents, fellow-pupils and teachers, teenage sex and pregnancy, violence in the home and, among girls, low self-esteem. The HIV epidemic had a major bearing on these factors, and there were wide-ranging effects on the teachers' own lives. Despite the training they had been given, many teachers felt that they could not adequately counsel their pupils on these matters. The teachers were in need of continuing support and training to enable them to cope with this aspect of their work
