In this recording Dr Suwit Wibulpolprasert of the Thai Ministry of Public Health talks about Thailand's experience when it issued compulsory licenses for two antiretroviral medicines in order to be able to treat more patients. Despite being put on a 'trade black list' by the US Government, the move was a success in public health terms, enabling the Thai Government to purchase more medicines and dramatically increase the availability of treatment for people living with AIDS

This advocacy toolkit provides field practitioners with a user-friendly overview of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CPRD) and with a set of questions and answers that will enable them to introduce the main elements to counterparts. It explains how states can become party to the CRPD and provides a model tool for addressing government ministers. The toolkit includes useful guidelines for interactions with journalists, and provides a list of organisations engaged with the rights of persons with disabilities and a useful list of resources. It is designed to support efforts by United Nations-managed and supported mine action centres to advocate for the ratification and implementation of the CPRD and its Optional Protocol. This toolkit is useful for field practitioners to guide their efforts to encourage CRPD ratification and to contribute to CRPD implementation and monitoring

This resource is the extended version of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons, 1993-2002 Information Kit. In this version (2003-2012) the UN ESCAP instituted the Biwako Millennium Framework for Action: towards an exclusive, barrier-free and rights-based society for persons with disabilities in Asia and the Pacific. The Biwako framework includes seven priority areas: self-help organisations, women with disabilities; early detection; training and employment; access to built environment; access to information; and poverty alleviation. In this version of the framework, the focus shifts from a charity-based approach to a rights-based approach of development. This source would be useful for anyone with an interest in human rights and disability and development
