This report evaluates the experience of member associations of the International Planned Parenthood, Western Hemisphere Region, in the development of programmes that use computer technologies to reach young people with sexual and reproductive health information. It identifies key issues for youth-and-technology projects and makes strategic recommendations for future development. The review of case studies from IPPF/WHR member associations in Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala and Peru provides important insight related to the preliminary effects of and lessons learned from the implementation of first-generation youth and technology projects in the region. Strategic recommendations for the development of second-generation projects in this area are also proposed

This is a report of the Health Information Forum meeting looking at leapfrog technologies. Wireless, satellite and hand-held systems have the potential to leapfrog information and communication into the next age. The presentations and discussions were based around the question of whether these technologies could meet the information needs of healthcare providers in developing countries. Four presentations were made: "Mobile phones and medical television in developing countries"; "ICTs for health information in rural Latin America"; "Leapfrog technologies : a revolution in continuing medical education?"; and "Leapfrog technologies: lessons learned and future prospects". Case study : the SATELLIFE PDA Project

The article describes the SATELLIFE Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) Project that explored questions related to the selection and design of appropriate, affordable technology and locally relevant content for use in African healthcare environment. The project was specifically targeted at assessing the usefulness of the PDA for (1) data collection and (2) information dissemination. This report describes a number of valuable lessons leaned from the project that can be applied to further deployment of PDAs in developing countries. A number of obstacles to technology use have also been identified, which will need to be overcome in order to promote the widespread adoption of the technology in this context

This is a report, commissioned by the UK Commission for Health Improvement (CHI) in March 2003, which provides a literature review looking at the sharing of learning in different sectors. A key aim of CHI’s approach is to encourage NHS organisations to embed learning in their work to help them improve their practice. The report draws on studies in the fields of education, psychology, organisational learning, personal learning, and participatory approaches to explore understanding of good learning practice. It includes more than 15 case studies that illustrate methodologies and approaches used to share learning in the business, public, and voluntary sectors, paying particular attention to the types of processes that encourage engagement with diverse communities of interest or multiple stakeholders

This is the introduction to a set of tools that form the draft Toolbox on Streams of Knowledge (SoK). The toolbox is a work in progress. Its use results in learning among partners in the SoK coalition that work together to strengthen resource centres' contributions to improved water and sanitation delivery. The learning process emerged from the project Study into Resources and Management (STREAM) of drinking water supply and sanitation centres in four continents. [Publisher's abstract] This document reviews the interim findings from Phase 1 of a Department for International Development (DFID) funded project (R7127) concerning the development of practical guidelines for research dissemination strategies. Results from a review of literature, case study analysis and interviews with key informants are discussed. The purpose of Phase 1 is to understand current thinking and approaches to dissemination of research as adopted by sector based agencies both in the UK and internationally. This facilitates an initial analysis of common dissemination strategies used, problems and constraints experienced, and factors that aid effective dissemination. This in turn is used to provide tentative guidance for research contractors and DFID alike for dissemination of projects

This website is a resource for researchers to aid them in changing policy by directly accessing and communicating with policy makers. The website has three components. One is a database of case studies documenting the process of getting research into practice. This gives an opportunity to researchers to share their experiences. The second section (on the left hand side of the website) comprises links to web pages for each component of the GRIPP process, giving examples of factors to consider and directions to resources relating to each step of the process. The third aspect of the website is a list of more general GRIPP related resources and a place where it is hoped that researchers will contribute comments related to both the content and activities of the website
