This article describes a UNICEF-funded initiative in Tamil Nadu, in India, to develop and trial sanitary napkin vending machines in government schools and colleges. A compact electronic incinerator for disposal of soiled napkins also was trialled. Overall these initiatives led to improved menstrual hygiene practices.
