This report outlines a series of reports in the National Disability Survey in Afghanistan (NDSA) undertaken by Handicap International on behalf of the government of Afghanistan. The NDSA aims to bridge the knowledge gap regarding the numbers, health, educational and employment situation, livelihoods and social integration of Afghans with disabilities. The Executive summary report presents a brief view of the methodology and results of the NDSA. The first section discusses the methods and field realities. The other sections discuss health, education, livelihood and employment in more detail

In August 2003 the government of Afghanistan gathered a group of experts, government officials, and national and international NGOs to develop a disability policy for Afghanistan. The result reflects the complex situation of Afghanistan which is devastated by civil war, extreme religious movements, drug production and poverty. This policy is the attempt to mainstream disability into all aspects of Afghan society and life. The document briefly describes the situation in Afghanistan, sets it into the national and international context and outlines the major policy issues. It will be of interest to NGOs and researchers.

This web-technology platform was developed to promote interdisciplinary practice in rehabilitation as an activity of Handicap International’s regional South Asian Project “Towards disability inclusive development through a strengthened rehab sector.” The website brings together various rehabilitation professionals to undertake continuous professional education (CPE) modules of 6-15 hours each in interdisciplinary practice, offer a South Asia regional resource sharing on rehab service mapping, different policy/practice guidelines in the field of physical rehabilitation, information on professional associations, rehab education, code of conduct, entry requirements and best practices. The Rehab monitor forum and blog section is a platform to initiate discussions on issues of relevance in rehabilitation and stories on community based rehabilitation (CBR) interventions from the field can be referenced in the ‘Stories’ section
