"Considering the need for more information on current practice and research in CBR, the researcher studied the effectiveness of an integrated model of CBR set up in the Christian Medical College, Vellore, South India (VCBR). The objectives of this study were to generate theory on the value of an `integrated model' that uses an educational strategy and to explore the value of secondary and tertiary care services for PWD in a community based rehabilitation programme for the improvement of their quality of life. A 'Case Study' design was used...The study found that an integrated model of CBR that uses an educational strategy, has good links with secondary/tertiary care centres and makes use of social network/capital, which is available in the community, improved the overall QOL of PWD"
This report presents information about understanding and interpreting disability as measured using the Washington group (WG)’s short set of questions. The six questions are for use in censuses and surveys according to the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics and are consistent with the International Classification of Functioning (ICF). The questions produce internationally comparable data on disability by identifying the majority of persons in the population who are at greater risk than the general population of experiencing limited or restricted participation in society. The questions cover six functional domains or basic actions: seeing, hearing, walking, cognition, self-care, and communication. This resource is useful to anyone interested in measuring disability

Using information from 17 population surveys. this article analyses whether there are differences between the prevalence of mood, anxiety and alcohol use disorders among persons with multiple pain conditions compared with those with single pain problems. The results suggest that the existence of multiple pain conditions can be favourably and comparably associated with mood and anxiety disorders in diverse cultures. This article examines the need to record disability status of the population in India more accurately. The authors present the constraints of the data reported via the census, national sample survey and World Bank estimates, and highlight the issues with under reporting disability status, especially among older generations and in rural areas where people feel there is social stigma to declare their status. The authors call for greater political support in India for researching disabled people more effectively by developing better ethnographies. They suggest the Indian government undertake best practice learning on changes worldwide of developing disability support programmes
