Ending the neglect to attain the Sustainable Development Goals: A road map for neglected tropical diseases 2021–2030

WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION (WHO)
January 2021

Expand view

The road map sets global targets and milestones to prevent, control, eliminate or eradicate 20 diseases and disease groups as well as cross-cutting targets aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. Three foundational pillars will support global efforts to achieve the targets: accelerate programmatic action (pillar 1), intensify cross-cutting approaches (pillar 2) and change operating models and culture to facilitate country ownership (pillar 3).

The disease summaries annexed to the road map detail the current epidemiological status and burden of disease, core strategic interventions and progress towards the 2020 targets of the previous road map. The targets, sub-targets and milestones for 2030, and the critical actions required to achieve them, were used to generate the evidence in the road map document endorsed by the World Health AssemblY

Use of remote sensing and a geographical information system in a national helminth control programme in Chad

BROOKER, S
et al
2002

Expand view

The study designed and implemented a rapid and valid epidemiological assessment of helminths among schoolchildren in Chad using ecological zones defined by remote sensing satellite sensor data and to investigate the environmental limits of helminth distribution. The conclusion is that GIS and remote sensing can play an important part in the rapid planning of helminth control programmes where little information on disease burden is available.

Communication case studies for the water supply and sanitation sector

This publication presents eight case studies that demonstrate that effective and sustainable action depends on changes in people; those who make and influence decisions about development priorities and at village level those who change their everyday lives. The cases show that these changes depend on effective communication efforts. They also demonstrate that communication is more than just information, it is a two-way process involving asking and listening
