AT Digest is a quarterly publication curated by the International Disability Alliance with the objective of increasing awareness about the possibilities offered by assistive technology as experienced by its users. Additionally, it aims to disseminate information to a broad spectrum of assistive technology stakeholders, such as present and prospective users, manufacturers, and policymakers. Fellows of IDA and GDI’s Assistive Technology User Fellowship Program are the key creators of this publication, as they share their experiences, highlights from project activities, and author insightful, original articles.

 

This issue of the AT Digest is about CRPD jurisprudence on assistive technology. Fellows have collaboratively authored a substantive article titled Evolution of CRPD jurisprudence on Assistive Technologies through Concluding Observations: An analysis from Global South perspectives by analyzing AT related recommendations from IDA`s compilations of CRPD Committee`s concluding observations. 

Preparing youth with disabilities in Indonesia to start their careers & making workplaces more inclusive

The Indonesia Skills to Succeed program provides employability skills training and job linkage support to youth with disabilities so they are able to obtain work. The program also organizes working groups with employers to advocate for changes that make workplaces more inclusive of youth with disabilities. Achievements to date and lessons learnt are outlined.

Most girls with disabilities do not have the opportunity to access education and to thrive in school. They are exposed to multiple  discrimination owing to their identity as girls and as children with disabilities. Comprehensive measures are needed to ensure their right to inclusive and quality education.

The factsheet builds on the findings of a research conducted by Humanity & Inclusion in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger and conveys messages and recommendations aiming to inspire action and thus improve educational opportunities for girls with disabilities.

Steps are described that support the implementation of mitigation measures to help prevent, reduce and respond to risks of exclusion and/or disproportionate impact on vulnerable groups.
