Hidden victims of the Syria crisis : disabled, injured and older refugees

This report presents research undertaken to highlight the number and needs of Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon living with impairment, injury and chronic disease – for the purposes of this study these groups are referred to as “people with specific needs”. Throughout the report specific consideration is given to the position of older people with specific needs.

Friends of the disabled association

Friends of the Disabled Association (FDA) is an advocacy voluntary organisation. It was started in 1978 by group of parents of persons with intellectual disabilities. FDA's purpose is to promote the full range of Human Rights for persons with disabilities and their parents through multiple programmes. Their main programmes are in early intervention, basic teaching, intermediate level, secondary level, prevocational & vocational training. FDA's main goal is to secure self-discrimination, independent living and being included in their communities.

Caught up in conflict : older people in humanitarian crises in Kyrgyzstan

This report presents the results of phone call survey led by HelpAge International with older people affected by the conflict situation in Osh in 2010. "The interviews revealed that two thirds of the respondents were coping badly with the situation, about 60 per cent stated that they found it difficult to get food. While 70 per cent said that they had to take medicine regularly, only about one third had some medication left. It came out that older people in humanitarian crisis often face life-threatening problems.

Assessment report : the vulnerability of older people in post-conflict Osh, Kyrgyzstan

"This report discusses the findings of a survey which was organized by HelpAge International with the intention of evaluating both the social situation and the requirements of vulnerable older people in a post conflict environment. The survey was undertaken in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, following the violent events of June 2010 in south of the country. It was conducted by Luch Lotosa, a local NGO, and the results were evaluated by HelpAge staff.

Disability inclusion in the Syrian refugee response in Lebanon

This report presents the key findings and recommendations from a four-week field assessment conducted by the Women's refugee Commission in Spring 2013 in northern and eastern Lebanon. Key findings are shared about the situation of Syrian refugees with disabilities, and recommendations are provided to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and partners.
