GPSIDA's objectives are to contribute to social support to people affected and infected by HIV; to undertake educative actions to improve the quality of life of HIV+ people; to contribute to an increased knowledge of people about STDs and HIV/AIDS; to contribute to changing people's attitudes and behaviours to decrease their risk of infection; and to contribute to the development of positive attitudes towards people affected and infected by HIV. Resource centre is open to the public

The Population Council conducts research in over 50 countries to address critical health and development issues. Their work allows couples to plan their families and chart their futures. They help people avoid HIV infection and access life-saving HIV services. They also empower girls to protect themselves and have a say in their own lives.

The Council's capabilities include:

IMPLEMENTATION SCIENCE to identify service-delivery challenges and test solutions that improve family planning, reproductive health, HIV and AIDS services, and programs for adolescent girls;

POLICY RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS that provide data needed by national governments and international bodies to develop evidence-based health and development policies;

DEMOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS to document the significance of the link between population and development;

BASIC BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH on new contraceptive and HIV-prevention compounds and delivery systems, as well as research to understand how HIV is transmitted sexually;

DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCTS that enable men and women to prevent pregnancy and protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections and disorders of the reproductive system;

CLINICAL TRIALS of promising products to determine their efficacy and safety;

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION to ensure that technologies developed by the Council are available to the poorest and most vulnerable people worldwide.

The CSDS Library should be able to perform as an effective and intelligent communication medium and thus become a significant and active part of a global information system and research network. This means that it should have the ability to: (1) Monitor a broad range of factors, namely, the present research topics of the CSDS's staff and researchers elsewhere; (2) facilitate the physical and intelectual accessability of the above mentioned resources; (3) provide local resources for access by other users; & (4) support national and international collaboration in research and publications activities. PATH is an international NGO dedicated to improving health and family planning services in developing countries by the development, adaptation and production of appropriate technological and communication materials. PATH directs an HIV/AIDS education and prevention project for Injecting drug users. It is also developing HIV/AIDS counselling material and workshops for all sectors of society. PATH finances the development of locally produced contraceptives and new testing technology. The resource centre is not open to the public

Goal: CD Bethesda will work in the community for 7-10 years. During this time the community will understand their problem and root of the problem structurally and functionally. Indicator: a decrease of IMR, incidence of disease along with increase in income and establishment of the community based resourse strategey system
