Mission Statement: As a centre of excellence, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed countries in the tropics and sub-tropics by: Providing and promoting high quality education and training. Conducting first class research and disseminating the results. Developing systems and technologies for health and assisting in their transfer and management. Providing appropriate consultancy services. In fulfilling this mission the scjool also provides a clinical service of acknowledged excellence.

Research as a multidimensional approach to produce knowledge, characterises the activity of the Institution. The research provides and forms the basis for thinking about current and future practices and problems, working together in the North and South of the world. Resource centre open to the public.

The Population Council conducts research in over 50 countries to address critical health and development issues. Their work allows couples to plan their families and chart their futures. They help people avoid HIV infection and access life-saving HIV services. They also empower girls to protect themselves and have a say in their own lives.

The Council's capabilities include:

IMPLEMENTATION SCIENCE to identify service-delivery challenges and test solutions that improve family planning, reproductive health, HIV and AIDS services, and programs for adolescent girls;

POLICY RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS that provide data needed by national governments and international bodies to develop evidence-based health and development policies;

DEMOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS to document the significance of the link between population and development;

BASIC BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH on new contraceptive and HIV-prevention compounds and delivery systems, as well as research to understand how HIV is transmitted sexually;

DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCTS that enable men and women to prevent pregnancy and protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections and disorders of the reproductive system;

CLINICAL TRIALS of promising products to determine their efficacy and safety;

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION to ensure that technologies developed by the Council are available to the poorest and most vulnerable people worldwide.

The UNU is an autonomous, academic institution of the UN system, which aims to contribute, through research and capacity building,, to efforts to resolve the pressing global problems that are the concern of the UN, its People and Members States. The UNU strives to fulfill this mission by performing four key roles based on the mandate given by its Charter: an internatinal community of scholars; a bridge between the UN and the international academic community; a think-tank for the UN system; and a builder of capacities, particularly in developing countries

The organisation networks with organisations working towards rehabilitation, including the disabled, cancer and leprosy patients, women and substance abusers. NCCP, SSI has disabled staff and board members. They have a resource centre which is open to the public and an enquiry service which is accessible by letter or telephone

Regional priorities for the CYP Asia are distance training for young people, youth exchange programmes on HIV/AIDS and workshops on family life education, The resource centre is open to researchers with prior permission. Country-specific activities are mentioned in their Centre Review and include self employment and sexual health activities. The CYP resource centre is open to the public
