The Asian Indigenous and Tribals People Network is an alliance of indigenous and tribal peoples’ organisations and individual activists across the Asian region. It seeks to promote and protect the rights of indigenous and tribal peoples in Asia. It researches and provides information on the current situation, undertakes capacity building trainings and provides political and legal advice to indigenous communities. In all its programmes, it undertakes a rights-based approach to development. Programmes are based around displaced populations, denial of citizenship, prevention of torture and awareness raising of discrimination against indigenous communities. It also acts as a form of watch dog and liaises with global institutions such as the United Nations and World Bank to inform their policy on human rights and indigenous peoples in the Asian region. An example of this is a document submitted to the UN committee on the rights of the child outlining the status of indigenous and minority children in Bangladesh
